Position Summary

The Monfort College of BusinessAdvising and Success Center works collaboratively with college leadership,staff, and the VP of Student Academic Success to increase enrollment, retention, and graduation rates. This position serves that role.

UNC professional advisors provide holistic,inclusive support, helping students navigate the institution to meet theiracademic and personal goals by building meaningful relationships and enactingintentional advising practices. This exempt staff position conducts advisingand retention activities utilizing strategies that include focusing oneliminating achievement gaps for Pell-eligible, First-Generation, andHistorically Marginalized/Underprivileged/Minoritized Communities whilesupporting their entire assigned caseload. This position is responsible for anadvising caseload of MCB undergraduate students, the development of individualsuccess plans, course and degree planning, class selection/scheduling,probation advising, and maintaining accurate records in the CRM system. This position analyzes and tracks student success data and createssolutions to improve retention, attrition, and time-to-graduation outcomes. This position contributes to the development and delivery ofcollege and unit-level programming. This position participates in recruitmentand conversion activities both at the college and university-wide levels. Professionaladvisors are accountable for understanding and articulating to students theacademic options and requirements of the University, College, and Department;they also work closely with faculty and other academic support personnel toassist students.

As part of the campus-wide advising model, this position works collaboratively with Student Outreach and Resource (SOAR) advisors and college-based professional advisors,athletic advisors, learning assistance programs (e.g. Writing Center, Tutoring Center, Math Lab), Career Services, Bear Central, and other campus partners to promote improvedundergraduate student outcomes.

Job Duties

This is a professional-exempt position within the Monfort College of Business Advising Center. This position works closely with other academic affairs and student affairs units to address the following functional areas:

Advising 70%
Maintain student data security and adhere to FERPA and relevant institutional policies and guidelines.
Conduct advising interventions for assigned caseload of undergraduate students.
Promote first-year momentum strategies, such as but not limited to, development of individual success plans and four-year degree mapping; registration consistent with completing 30 credit hours a year; successful completion of 9 credits related to their major or desired major of study; completion of college- level math and English as laid out within their four-year plan; and early connection with faculty within their major to begin exploring how major connects to future career opportunities;
Identify high risk students through early intervention and use strategies in retention, student development, and proactive advising to outreach to these students.
Support advising interventions for MCB majors placed on academic probation including checking in with students who are on probation, reviewing academic policies with students, facilitating discussions that help the student identify their reasons for academic difficulty, and assisting students with creating strategies to get back into good standing.
Participate in campus-wide success campaigns such as targeted registration nudge campaigns and early alert campaigns;
Coach students on the transition to college and college readiness.
Be an expert on Degree Works, Transferology, and Navigate, and adapt to new software as it is adopted; serve as a trainer and resource for faculty liaisons on all software programs used for advising.
Have detailed knowledge of other support services on campus, such as but not limited to, Tutoring Services, Student Outreach and Academic Resources, Counseling Center, Bear Central, Career Services, and cultural and resource centers; know how to refer students to these areas.
Develop a rapport with students by checking in with them between appointments, acknowledging their successes, and cultivating a relationship of mutual trust and respect.
Serve as a resource to students in immediate crisis and refer them to other UNC support services as needed.
Expose students to a wide variety of experiences and opportunities that can result in positive connections to UNC.
Actively engage in opportunities that promote a welcoming and inclusive space for students, faculty and staff.
Actively engage in professional development opportunities.

Data Management, Reporting, Assessment, and Program Development 10%
Ensure that accurate advising records are maintained for compliance, reporting, and assessment purposes.
Verify, certify, and/or complete appropriate student-related forms and processes.
Assist with the development and implementation of procedures to assess student needs and the impact/outcome of advising services.
Assist with the development and implementation of workshops on student related topics, such as but not limited to, college readiness, career exploration, faculty meet and greets, and programs offered by other UNC student support services.
Analyze student data to track attrition, time to graduation and retention rates.

College-Level Programming 10%
Actively participate in MCB college-level meetings.
Support programming such as Business Blastoff, career development events, Academic Excellence Banquet, and graduation reception.
Work closely with the Professional Experience Coordinator to ensure students are aware of and able to meet PE requirements.
Develop positive relationships with faculty in departments and schools.
Actively participate on college-level committees.

Other Duties as Assigned 10%
Attend and actively participate in recruitment activities and orientation programs for all incoming students.
Attend and actively participate in university committees, such as but not limited to, the Advisor Network.
Assist with the daily operations of the Center when administrative support is not available.
Assist with center-sponsored student events aimed at increasing a sense of belonging, success, and retention.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Education:
Required: Earned Master's degree in relevant discipline (Psychology, Higher Education, Student
Affairs, College Student Personnel, or another related field) from an accredited university, or
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university and at least 3 years of relevant higher education
work experience.

Preferred: Education in a major within the college of business.

2. Experience:
Required: Demonstrated ability to work well with students, parents, faculty, and staff;
demonstrated excellence in communication skills; ability to work independently and in a team;
problem-solving skills; keen attention to detail; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications,
strong work ethic; and a high degree of energy.

Preferred: Knowledge of UNC student services; experience working in a major within the
College of Business; experience presenting to diverse groups; ability to prioritize among tasks and multitask; and
experience working with the Student Support Collaborative (or equivalent) and Degree Works.

3. Certification/Registration/Licensing:
N/A

4. Ability:
Computer skills required, data analytics required. Ability to serve diverse individuals through effective interpersonal and communication skills using various communication media.

5. Special Considerations:
The responsibility of this position requires a very special, multifaceted individual with the ability
to work with great accuracy under pressure.
