SUMMARY

Under general supervision, coordinates and leads OLA professional development efforts in support of the MPS Strategic Plan and equity focus. Represents OLA on curriculum adoption and other committees, as well as facilitating teacher learning and to frame and support the overall equity strategies of MPS in order to increase achievement for all students. Candidate must be bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • Provides professional development for educators about equitable, higher-level, and rigorous instruction methods that promote Latine student achievement.
  • Collaborates with members of the District Academic Leadership Team (ALT) to identify and align professional development for all groups of MPS employees such as teachers, paraprofessionals, clerical, principals and central office staff.
  • Develops and implements District-wide professional growth and development on topics related to educational equity that align with the MPS strategic plan and boost Latine student educational outcomes.
  • Coordinates efforts to involve staff, students, and families in the development and implementation of activities and programs to promote cultural proficiency and support to Latine students in their education.
  • Supports and coaches teachers on the implementation of specific Standards of Effective Instruction (SOEI), assessment strategies that relate to educational equity and cultural proficiency, and multilingual tools that meet students’ differentiated learning styles and needs.
  • Tracks Latine student district data and achievement and facilitates its use for OLA program development and continuous improvement processes.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
  • Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.
  • Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines

Master’s degree in education or related field; AND three (3) years of demonstrated classroom experience; one (1) year of which was in a leadership role related to education or instruction (i.e. coaching, team leadership); OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

 

Must be bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English.

Must be culturally competent in Latin American culture.

 

Knowledge of:

  • Applicable policies, procedures and regulations covering specific areas of assignment.
  • Rules and regulations of the Minnesota Department of Education and other governing agencies.
  • Principles and practices of leadership, school improvement, reform, professional development, instructional planning, and assessment.
  • Statistical software applications, databases and spreadsheets used to manage large data files.
  • Methods for improving student achievement in public education.
  • Principles of record keeping, records management, and management of confidential records.

 

Skill in:

  • Assessing student instruction.
  • Compiling, disaggregating, and analyzing data.
  • Administering school support programs.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with staff, students and families.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Analyzing problems and developing effective solutions.
  • Professional development planning, group facilitation, communications, instructional coaching, and school improvement planning.
  • Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.

 

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is performed in a classroom and a general office environment, with moderate physical requirements; requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. Jobs in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree, long periods of working with computers, and working with children.
