No one can understand mental health challenges quite like someone who has faced them. Contra Costa Health Services is changing the way our county responds to people in a behavioral health crisis and people with lived experience will make this vision a reality.

A3 is an innovative approach to provide timely and appropriate behavioral health crisis services to anyone, anywhere at anytime in Contra Costa County. A3 team members triage crisis calls, provide field-based mental health crisis intervention and peer support; and connect people in crisis and their families to services.

We Are Hiring People Who:
  • Have lived experience - you or a family member are living with a mental health condition or are in recovery from a mental health condition or substance use disorder
  • Are familiar with methods of wellness, recovery and resiliency in mental health and substance use
  • Have experience working and interacting with people from diverse cultural and linguistic groups
  • Are a graduate of SPIRIT, NAMI Basics or Family-to-Family, Alameda County BestNOW! or Community Action Marin Mental Health Peer Education Program
What you'll typically be responsible for:
  • Providing telephone and field-based behavioral health crisis interventions while working on a multidisciplinary team
  • Providing support to peers and family members of a person in crisis
  • Linking people to appropriate resources in the community
  • Coordinate with law enforcement and emergency medical responders

Minimum Qualifications


Mental Health Community Support Worker I Education : Current enrollment in or successful completion of a training program approved by the County Costa County Behavioral Health Division.


Examples of approved training programs include: 1) Service Provider Individualized Recovery Intensive Training (SPIRIT); 2) National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) Family-to-Family training; and Family Partnership Training.

Mental Health Community Support Worker II
Education : Successful completion of a training program approved by the County Costa County Behavioral Health Division.


Experience: Two (2) years of full-time, or its equivalent, experience providing peer counseling to mental health clients and/or, parents and families of children who are seriously emotionally disturbed, and/or parent of families of seriously and persistently mentally ill adults.


Examples of approved training programs include: 1) Service Provider Individualized Recovery Intensive Training (SPIRIT); 2) National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) Family-to-Family training; and Family Partnership Training.
