Job Description
The Wisconsin State Journal, a division of Lee Enterprises, is seeking a self-motivated journalist to help our Lee Sports Wisconsin team, which is made up of newspapers across the state, captivate and engage audiences by joining our award-winning staff as a sports copy editor.
We are looking for an individual who enjoys having a hand in multiple parts of telling a good story and attracting an audience to it. This person will be a member of a four-person team that shepherds our award-winning print sections through the production process and maximizes a story's potential to reach a broad digital audience.
The position will report to our deputy sports editor. You will be part of the state's lone AP Sports Editors Triple Crown winner, a staff that encourages creativity and experimentation in how we tell stories. We want to empower you to help tell great stories while ensuring all our stories have the greatest potential to connect with our readers.
The right candidate will:
- Be dependable and comfortable multitasking to handle multiple deadlines
- Understand the importance of editing stories for style, completeness, fairness, grammar, spelling, accuracy, organization and conciseness
- Enjoy collaborating with others to tell bigger stories and tackle bigger issues
- Embrace the challenge of writing SEO-friendly headlines for our digital audience and catchy headlines for our print products
